Kilby Block Party

Salt Lake City, Utah

About

Kilby Block Party is the festival we consider to be  the most underrated music festival. The festival that started as a 20th anniversary block party to celebrate Kilby Court, the longest running all ages venue in Salt Lake City, Utah. It has since grown to a 4 day festival at Utah State Park. The lineups are deep, and the crowds are not gigantic as there are only about 25,000 people in attendance each day.

The lineup is diverse, but is always heavy on the Indie Rock side. Past headliners have included LCD Soundsystem, Death Cab for Cutie/Postal Service, The Strokes, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pavement, and Phoebe Bridgers.

Salt Lake City is at a high elevation, just under a mile high. The days tend to be sunny and warm, but not too hot. The average high temperature is in the mid 70s to low 80s with a low in the 60s at night. Sunscreen is necessary due to sunny days and a thinner atmosphere.

Kilby has some of the best VIP pricing of any festival that we have seen, and it helps to keep areas near the main stages from being too crowded.

At music festivals, staying hydrated is key. With a 2L leak-proof bladder and a mesh backing that helps keep you cool, these high quality hydration packs are an essential festival accessory.

Liquid IV

Nothing is worse than a hangover in the heat, so the festival smarties always have a few of these in their back pocket. With a huge array of flavors from cotton candy to popsicle firecracker, Liquid IV tastes great and will get you back on your feet in no time.

Eargasm High Fidelity Earplugs with Blue Filters

After years of going to music festivals and live shows, tinnitus has taken out many of our festie friends (a few of them can’t go to live shows anymore). Ear plugs are an absolute must, and these are perfect for blocking the bad without compromising the good. Protect your ears- they’re the only ones you’ve got.

Lume Whole Body Deodorant

Do we really need to explain this one? You’ll be getting real close and personal with fellow festies as you wait for your favorite set to start, so make it a pleasant experience for everyone around you by handling your stank.

Women's Tummy Control Yoga Shorts

Ladies…you need at least 2 pairs of anti-chafing shorts just in case the heat becomes a little too much for your legs. They are lightweight, comfortable (look at that wide waistband), and have a handy leg pocket. Great under skirts or dresses, or all by themselves, these shorts are a must have for every festie girl.

Handheld Mini Fan, 3 IN 1 USB Rechargeable Portable Fan [12-19 Working Hours] with Power Bank, and Flashlight

This handheld fan is our go-to for warm festivals. It’s charge lasts long enough to cool us down all day and light the way on our walk back to our tent at night. Bonus: it also works as a phone charger.

Compact, Lightweight, Sand Proof Pocket Blanket

Save yourself from a dirt (or worse…mud) covered bootie with this travel blanket- just hook it to your fanny pack by it’s cute little carabiner and go. With stakes to help it stay secure, you won’t even have to worry about it staying put.

Glitter Large Rave Folding Hand Fan with Holster

We always carry one of these on hot days, and at festivals they are even more essential. This one has both a waist strap and a leg strap to keep it extra secure, or you can just throw it in a backpack. They can keep you cooler than the tiny rechargeable hand fans and they can also block the sun as you wait for the next performer to take the stage.

We took these to Bonnaroo last year and became everyone’s best friends. A few spritzes of water on a super hot day makes you feel like a new person, and we will never attend another outdoor music festival without one.
