Our favorite musical festival! Glastonbury Festival began in 1970 on a dairy farm in Somerset, UK, and started as a celebration of music, arts, and counterculture, inspired by the hippie movement, specifically Woodstock in the US in 1969. The festival is still run by its original founders, Micheal and his daughter Emily Eavis, who you may see driving through festival grounds in their old pickup, throwing small cartons of milk produced on the farm (the cows are temporarily rehoused nearby during the festival). Over the years, Glastonbury has grown into a global icon. The Pyramid Stage, introduced in 1981, has become a symbol of the festival, hosting legendary acts like David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, and Beyoncé. It has become a symbol of iconic status for musicians…if you make it to pyramid, you’ve secured a spot amongst the world’s biggest music legends, forever. Those lucky enough to make it… artists like Nirvana, Adele, Paul McCartney, Coldplay and Beyoncé, have praised the festival for its energy and sense of community. The music is certainly the primary draw of Glasto, but for us at Stairwell Baby, the best thing about Glasto is that it does not rely on corporate sponsors. You will not be inundated with free samples of the newest vitamin infused water or a “brand ambassador” soliciting around every corner. It’s a strange concept for Americans to grasp, but the absence of corporate sponsorship completely changes the festival experience. It kind of shocks you into an elevated awareness and adds to the feeling that Glasto is a sacred space for people to escape the psychological trappings of living in a modern capitalist society. Additionally, Glasto has always embraced sustainability, activism (they partner with Oxfam), and diversity, featuring artists from various backgrounds and promoting gender equality. Today, Glastonbury continues to be a major highlight of the festival scene, attracting music lovers worldwide with its expansive stages, art installations (the political satire installations are always so good), and electric atmosphere. From its humble roots to becoming a cultural phenomenon, Glastonbury remains a celebration of music, creativity, and connection. Do yourself a favor and GO TO GLASTO!
At music festivals, staying hydrated is key. With a 2L leak-proof bladder and a mesh backing that helps keep you cool, these high quality hydration packs are an essential festival accessory.
Do we really need to explain this one? You’ll be getting real close and personal with fellow festies as you wait for your favorite set to start, so make it a pleasant experience for everyone around you by handling your stank.
Ladies…you need at least 2 pairs of anti-chafing shorts just in case the heat becomes a little too much for your legs. They are lightweight, comfortable (look at that wide waistband), and have a handy leg pocket. Great under skirts or dresses, or all by themselves, these shorts are a must have for every festie girl.
This handheld fan is our go-to for warm festivals. It’s charge lasts long enough to cool us down all day and light the way on our walk back to our tent at night. Bonus: it also works as a phone charger.
Save yourself from a dirt (or worse…mud) covered bootie with this travel blanket- just hook it to your fanny pack by it’s cute little carabiner and go. With stakes to help it stay secure, you won’t even have to worry about it staying put.
We always carry one of these on hot days, and at festivals they are even more essential. This one has both a waist strap and a leg strap to keep it extra secure, or you can just throw it in a backpack. They can keep you cooler than the tiny rechargeable hand fans and they can also block the sun as you wait for the next performer to take the stage.
We took these to Bonnaroo last year and became everyone’s best friends. A few spritzes of water on a super hot day makes you feel like a new person, and we will never attend another outdoor music festival without one.
Super handy on-the-go, these water bottle clips attach to your belt or bag strap to free up your hands. They also work for spray bottles and similarly sized refillable water bottles.
These towels are festival faves for a reason- they work! On the hottest of festival days, these have saved many-a festie from overheating. The 4 pack is the way to go at a multi-day summer festival.
Avoid being assigned the nickname “FunkMaster Not-So-Fresh” by your friends by taking a pack of these to the outdoor summer festivals. They come in handy travel packs so just throw one in your fanny pack and go into the festival with confidence.
Your #1 Boo at any outdoor music festival is sunscreen! Coola’s spray on sunscreen is organic, non-irritating and goes on clear. They have several SPF levels and scents to choose from including Mango Guava and Tropical Coconut.
